I have always wondered why sugar is a common feature in most kitchens in Nigeria. May be because it is cheaper than honey, after all I know its not everyday you see bees or even a bee hive. I have always known that somehow, honey is more nutritious than sugar. I stand to be corrected though. That was my thought when I saw a mobile shop on the street of Owerri, selling honey to whomever cared to buy.

Is honey a better deal than sugar?

Honey is said to be from a pure source. It is easily metabolized in the body than your regular sugar. The benefit of honey is quite enormous, but I will give a few that you may never have known.

FOR HANGOVERS: After that hangover effect from alcohol, you can combat it by treating yourself with honey. Honey is gentle on the stomach and contains a mix of natural sugars such fructose which is known to speed up the oxidation of alcohol by the liver, acting as a ‘sobering’ agent.

FOR SORE THROATS: Do you know that honey can help take care of that sore throat. It works like magic, but it is scientifically proven. Thanks to its antimicrobial properties, honey not only soothes throats but can also kill certain bacteria that causes the infection. Professional singers commonly use honey to soothe their throats before performances.
