Babcock University

When an email got to me asking if it was proper and legal for a Private Teaching Hospital to do this, I was at a loss… until I received another email with an attached copy of the advert placement.

The advertisement reads;

The Board and Management of Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan Remo invites suitable candidates into the Institution as House Officers
REQUIREMENTS:
Suitable candidates must have:
1) Temporary Registration with the Medical and Dental council of Nigeria (MDCN)
2) M.B.B.S
MODE OF APPLICATION:
Interested candidates will obtain an application form from office of the Director of Clinical Services and Training at Babcock University Teaching Hospital at the cost of Twenty Thousand Naira only (N20,000.00) or

download the application form here and return the filled form to Babcock University Teaching Hospital  with evidence of payment.

The email wanted to know if it was proper for the institution to ask newly graduated doctors to pay for the forms that would enable them sit for exams and eventually be employed for Housemanship.
A lot of people are at the neck of the institution, for being insensitive to the plight of these new doctors by requesting for Naira 20,000.
I believe the institution is a private enterprise, not funded directly by government, so it is basically the prerogative of the management to set rules as they deem fit. If this rules and regulations are way above or below your standard, then I suggest you source for an alternative.
