At the recently concluded Future of Healthcare Conference organized by Nigeria Health Watch Group, a senior Federal Government official was given an opportunity to speak to the audience.
She is Hon. Abike Dabiri Erewa, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Diaspora and Foreign Affairs. A few minutes after passionately calling for Diaspora doctors to return home, she unwittingly clicked the trigger that sent Nigerians on a frenzy on social media – Instagram was not spared either.

After this seemingly harmless and patriotic comment, Mrs. Dabiri got a backlash.
First, it was for doctors;
Then it was the turn of other Nigerians who understand what doctors are facing in the country.
It is now confirmed that medical doctors’ perception to work in the country is at its lowest ebb now. Many doctors are just waiting for the right moment to migrate to one of these best locations. A whole lot of reasons fuels this exodus of doctors out of the country.

Some people are simply outraged that she made the call for a return of doctors and nothing is being done to improve the condition of things.
Then this one post stated what a typical medical doctor expect the government to do.
Many Medical Doctors want a stable workplace devoid of strikes and unnecessary intra-professional or interprofessional rivalry, an opportunity to grow and develop professionally, a decent salary. Provide these little demands and maybe it will stop a further exodus from happening.
I doubt it will change the minds of diaspora doctors significantly though.
