Edo State Branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his foresight in ensuring that qualified professionals in the medical profession were nominated in the ministerial list to the senate, to pilot the affairs of the country in bringing dividend of democracy and medical expertise to Nigerians.
Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State Branch, Prof. Afekhide Ernest Omoti, while applauding Buhari on his recent nomination of Dr. Osagie Ehanire and Dr. Chris Ngige as ministers in the soon to be screened ministerial list already before the Senate said the decision to enlist medical doctors for the task in building the nation was a step in the right direction and assured that the calibre of the duo nominated speaks volume of their unblemished record.
Omoti said, “This progressive action is a testimony to the role that medical doctors have been playing in the socio-political development of Nigeria. We can testify to the personal integrity, discipline and uncommon courage of the two doctors who are the hallmark of members of the medical profession. In nominating them, the President must have reckoned with their pedigree, incorruptibility, eyes for excellence and bias for equity to all who have come in contact with them,” he said.
He noted that Ehanire was a distinguished consultant orthopedic surgeon who had impacted on society through his humanitarian disposition over the years as a physician. “He is very highly respected in Edo State as a distinguished surgeon with the added quality of being very grass-rooted and result-oriented.”
While describing Ngige as a successful medical doctor and dogged politician par excellence, Omoti said, as governor, Ngige raised the bar on good governance and his legacies are still being celebrated in Anambra State till date adding that, “as a distinguished senator in the last republic, Ngige performed his duties creditably and was one of the senators with unblemished character, who stood by the good people of Nigeria in every endeavour.”
Omoti, who expressed confidence in the nomination of Ehanire and Ngige wished them all the best in carrying out the important responsibilities that would be entrusted to them by Mr. President noting that, “the president can be sure that these men will not let him down as he pursues the change agenda of the All Progress Congress (APC).”
