Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited is to build a world-class trauma centre at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Akwa Thom State.
The news was broken in Uyo when the project committee, led by Commissioner for Health Dr. Dominic Ukpong, visited the site.
He said the centre would cater for the injured; from severe to acute care, and rehabilitation. Ukpong said the centre would provide an integrated care between out-of-hospital and hospital providers, with the cooperation of medical specialists and others.
Also, the centre, he said would act as a medical facility where injured patients could receive resuscitation, assessment and disposition on a 24-hour basis.
Chief Medical Director (CMD) Prof. Etete Peters said “the most common cause of injury that brings patients to a trauma centre is auto crash.”
He said trauma cases from accidents accounted for greater number of fatal-ities on roads.
According to him, with the centre, there will be an Accident and Emergency Department working with extant agencies to provide care.
Peters thanked ExxonMobil for its magnanimity and show of love to traumatic patients and other indigenes as exemplified in the donation of the centre.
