MisoFem Use: Testimonies Of A Drug Saving Lives

In what appears to be a concerted and deliberate effort at reducing the maternal mortality indices in the country, DKT Nigeria have put out these heart warming testimonies of the success of a Misoprostol.

This a drug use to tackle Postpartum Haemorrhage (PPH), one of the leading causes of maternal mortality in developing countries.

The organisation sent in this story via our official email and I thought is best we share how amazing these accounts are.

TBA’s (Traditional Birth Attendants) Meet Miso-Fem – DKT Experience

Recently, DKT Nigeria trained TBAs in the rural areas of Enugu State in Eastern Nigeria. The reality is that a large number of deliveries especially in the rural areas are performed by these TBAs who have no formal medical training or education but provide maternity care and childbirth based on experience and knowledge acquired informally through the traditions and practices of the community where they are indigenes or residents.

The TBAs training focused on the use of misoprostol (Miso-Fem) for prevention and treatment of Postpartum hemorrhage and counselling techniques on pregnancy prevention and child spacing.

More than three hundred TBAs were trained from five local governments and at the end of the training, each trainee received a free box of Miso-Fem containing 72 tablets.

Two days after the training, immediate success was recorded when a trainee from Eziagu Local Government administered the correct dosage of Miso-Fem on a very young woman who delivered triplets.

According to the trainee, DKT’s training on Miso-Fem helped her to save lives. “Immediately I was sure the last baby had come out’, she exclaimed, ‘I administered Miso-Fem and there was no bleeding even though the woman delivered three babies! Thank you DKT Nigeria for giving me this training on Miso-Fem. I am very grateful”.

These testimonies from the field points to the fact that DKT Nigeria is making widespread impact even among vulnerable populations in hard-to-reach places!

The Passionate Miso-Fem Advocate!

In Ondo State, our medical sales team received a powerful report from a doctor who administered Miso-Fem on a patient with complications from ‘retained product of conception’.

About 50% of fertilizations end up in miscarriage and several victims of miscarriage become further traumatized when they succumb to the consequences of ‘retained product of conception’ which include infection, severe bleeding and sepsis.

The Ondo State patient had suffered a 16-week miscarriage and her vital signs were very negative. She was rushed from Idanre on transfer to the hospital having shaking chills, showing signs of very high body temperature, pale arms and legs and in severe pain.

The doctor immediately administered two tablets of Miso-Fem(DKT’s brand of Misoprostol) and the woman expelled the retained products. The patient began recovering immediately.

The successful expulsion of the retained products of conception thrilled the doctor and he has since become an `Unpaid’ Miso-Fem advocate spreading the news to other doctors and clients of how the wonder-working Miso-Fem saved his patient’s life.

With Miso-Fem, DKT Nigeria is saving the lives of numerous women throughout Nigeria!

Congratulations to DKT Nigeria for the numerous strides already recorded.
