COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF CONGRESS MEETING OF LUTH NURSES HELD ON FRIDAY 10TH JUNE, 2016 TO REVIEW THE 7- DAY ULTIMATUM GIVEN TO THE MANAGEMENT ON PENDING ISSUES.
At the end of the congress meeting held with the entire LUTH Nurses by the leadership of State Administrative Council (SAC) of National Association Of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, Lagos State Council to review all pending issues bothering on working conditions and staff welfarism.
The labour leaders and the entire nurses resolved as follows:-
That non-promotion of nurses to the post of Chief Nursing Officer – CONHESS 13 as done in all other Federal Health Institutions for the year 2015 promotion exercise is a clear display of high-handedness, injustice and lack of equity and it negates NIC judgement and Scheme of Service.
That skipping of CONHESS 10 still subsists based on National Industrial Court judgement as conveyed by circular with reference HSCF/EPO/EIR/637551/T1/192 dated 4th November, 2013. And it must be obeyed.
That junior nurses have not been promoted for six years and above, while their counterparts employed at the same time in other Federal Health Institutions are already two grade levels above them. This is unacceptable.
Non-payment of salaries to newly employed junior nurses effective from October, 2015. This is making life unbearable for the junior nurses not to mention the stoppage of teaching allowance to nurses since 2015.
Other issues of concern are:
- Inadequate/obsolete equipment,
- Irregular water supply, lack of consumables,
- Inadequate manpower,
- No electricity at night,
- Non-payment of years 2013, 2014, 2015 promotion arrears,
- Non-payment of year 2016 uniform allowance/balance of year 2015 uniform allowance.
Consequent upon the above, and in view of the insensitiveness of LUTH management to our plights, ALL NURSES are hereby directed to embark on an indefinite strike with IMMEDIATE EFFECT today 10th June, 2016, until further notice.
