I came across a cheery news on Lassa Fever.
It is quite unusual to associate Lassa fever with any cheery news.
Just wait for it…
It is the very first International Conference on Lassa Fever. You may know it or not, but it has been almost 50 Years of Lassa Fever being discovered. Hence this conference comes at an auspicious moment. 2019 will make it 50 years since we found the first case of the disease.

This year’s conference is tagged “Rising to the Challenge” and it holds from Jan 16 – 17, 2019 at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
Overall these years, outbreaks have been recorded yearly in parts of the country. In 2018, Nigeria experienced the largest reported outbreak of Lassa Fever with 21 of 36 States in the country affected.
The 50th year of discovery of Lassa fever is an opportunity for the scientific community to reflect on what is known, describe gaps that exist and prioritize the research agenda for the future.
