The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) of Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia in Abia State, has embarked on strike. A lot of reasons about this latest action is related to payment of salaries and arrears.
FMC Umuahia, is one of Nigeria’s stable medical centers, because it hardly goes on strike. The Union’s demands include the payment of arrears of 2013 promotion, uniform allowance to the nurses, payment of all outstanding check-off-dues to the unions.
The Chief Medical Director Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, Dr Chukwu Abali have even confirmed the petition of the striking health workers in these words;
“We are yet to receive funds for the payment of all the arrears and this position can be verified at the Federal Ministry of Health and the budget office. That is the position of management on this issue,’’ Abali said.
