The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Delta State University Teaching Hospital Oghara Delta have embarked on an indefinite strike over the assault and battery of a Nurse (Name Witheld).
A Nigerian Airforce Officer named Ovie Doghro, was reported to have beaten the nurse on 5th January 2016 following the death of his father in the male medical ward of the hospital. He was reported to have flown into rage, beating up the nurse to the point of shattering her clothes.
Other nurses, patients and sympathisers tried to intervene to stop the brutal attack on the nurse. Eventually the airforce officer was held away from the nurse and the beating came to an end.
As a result of this, the NANNM DELSUTH in a memo to the Hospitals management before embarking on this strike action have demanded for the following:
1. The arrest of the assailant Mr Ovie Doghro and his prosecution in the court of law
2. An apology letter to the nurse from Mr Ovie
3. Payment of restitution and for injuries and damagies to the nurse
4. The provision of protection & security to the hospital by its management to prevent such futher occurences
The Indefinite Strike Action kicked off at 12 Midnight 8th January 2016
