The Medical Director and head, Interim Management Committee, Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, Imo State, Prof.Ndu Eke, has blamed non-availability of equipment for the referral of patients to other hospitals.
Prof. Eke told Daily Trust in Owerri that though the hospital has zero tolerance for diverting patients, there was need to move the patients out of the hospital.
He explained that some patients were referred to other hospitals owing to non-availability of oxygen and other equipment in the institution.
On the allegation of high charges and levies by the hospital, Prof. Eke said the charges and levies had remained lower than other hospitals in the country.
