STEM CELLS AS AN ANTI-DEPRESSANT.

A new drug for depressed individuals has been discovered. Although so many anti-depressants are on sale in the market, the interesting difference about this one is that: it does not act on the monoamines (norepinephrine, serotonin, monoamine oxidase) but promotes the growth of new nerve cells in the hippocampus. This preserves these neurotransmitters, while improving the brain function. This new drug is derived from stem cells. Stem cells are undifferentiated embryonic cells capable of giving rise to numerous, different, specialized cells in the body.
