Ondo school of nursing to award first degree

The Ondo State Government has said that it has started the process of upgrading the Ondo State School of Nursing and Midwifery to a degree-awarding institution.

The government also said it was committed to ensuring that quality nursing education was provided in the state-owned nursing institution.

The Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Taye Oni, stated this while speaking during the matriculation ceremony of 50 student midwives in the Ondo State School of Midwifery, Akure, the state capital.

He noted that there had been a paradigm shift in nursing education in Nigeria.

He said, “Schools of nursing and midwifery are fast becoming degree-awarding institutions or monotechnics.

“To this end, the Ondo State Government is doing a lot to transform the school and the rate of transformation would be more rapid.”

He urged the matriculating students to work hard in order to achieve excellent performance, urging them not to allow distractions in the course of their study in the institution.

In her remarks, the Principal of the school, Mrs. Bridget Oladele, advised the new students to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the institution.

She noted that diligence and hard work were the only means to guarantee a successful stay for the students of the institution. She also urged the government to give more support to the school.
