When the President of the Nigeria Optometric Student Association, Madonna University chapter contacted me, I was thrilled, after all we are all Doctors. So I decided to dig further about the National body of the group. I learnt a lot but I ll share the major highlights of my outing with this Great Group.
Before I continue, I would like to say Optometry as a field is limited to certain schools, who have been deemed fit to offer this course in their Colleges or Faculty of Health Sciences. The Schools includes
– The Federal University Of Technology, Owerri, Imo State
– The University of Benin, Benin, Edo State
– Madonna University, Elele, Rivers State
– Imo State University, Owerri, Imo State
– Abia State University, Uturu, Abia State
The activities of these 5 Institutions are directly supervised by the Optometry Council, a body established by law under the Federal Ministry Of Health.
In its usual tradition, the Council of Optometry Presidents, ie Presidents of the different Chapters of the Nigerian Optometric Students’ Association, have scheduled this year’s Conference/AGM, tagged ‘IMSU 2015’, to hold between 3rd – 7th, June 2015. It holds at the Main Auditorium of IMSU, Owerri with a theme, ‘Optometrist Without Borders’.
It promises to a powerful 4-day long events. The highlights of this year’s event include; Dinner, Mr NOSA and Miss NOSA Beauty Pageant.
Also on the schedule is a Dinner Party that promises to be an experience like never before. Interested persons must make available a token to gain entrance into a first class dinner party that is strictly by invitation. This dinner party holds in the evening of 6th June, 2015 at the prestigious City Global Hotel, Owerri Imo State. Red Carpet begins at exactly 5pm but the dinner proper is at 6pm.
