The University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State, Nigeria continues to receive more praises. This time, it is from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, the Regulatory body in charge of medical education in Nigeria.
The visitors, comprising of 5 eminent Professors from different arms in Medicine, seemed to be over elated by the very prospect of establishing a university purely for the study of Medical Sciences.
The leader of the team, Prof Okechukwu Mbonu has this to say;
The MDCN is proud of Governor Olusegun Mimiko for the tremendous impact of his various health programmes. We are particularly happy and commend the governor for the establishment of the University of Medical Sciences. The university, apart from being the first in this part of the continent, also holds the key to becoming the hub of medical education even on the continent. We have gone round the university’s campus and we are quite impressed by the facilities, the management staff and the curricula. We hope and pray that the government would continue to strengthen its political will to make the institution work.We are also happy that Mimiko has picked the best person to pioneer the university. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Friday Okonofua, is one of the best in the medical profession and education. It will be a thing of joy to see the university achieving its set objectives with the steps being taken.”
