Held at LUTH’s Surgical Skills Centre, surgical resident doctors and other specialists were taken through a successful live Laparoscopic surgery at the hospital’s theatre. Also, peri-operative nurses were trained in laparoscopic surgery and didactic interactive lectures was carried out by local and international experts in laparoscopic surgeries.
Representing the Chief Medical Director (CMD), LUTH, Christopher Bode, the Head of Department of Surgery, LUTH, Prof. Suleiman Giwa said the purpose of the workshop is to bring experts around the globe to train surgeons in the six-geopolitical zones in Nigeria on how to do the keyhole operation.
Giwa said, “Laparoscopic surgery started many years in Europe and America. Keyhole surgery as we call it is a modern surgical technique in which operations are performed through small incisions in the skin.”
