Lawmaker Advises Doctors to go into Politics

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Dr. Olarewaju Tejuosho,  has called on doctors in the country to go into politics.

According to him, if doctors go into politics, they can easily influence funding to the health sector with a view to improving health care delivery system throughout the country.

This is contained in a statement from the Public Relations Consultant to the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, Mr. Asteriod Bassey, in Uyo on Tuesday.

The statement revealed that the state chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Aniekeme Uwah, had been awarded a distinguished service award by the NMA as the most outstanding state chairman in Nigeria.

According to the statement, the award was presented to Uwah by the Commissioner for Health, Cross River State, Dr. Inyang Asibong, on behalf of the NMA and its stakeholders at the 57th annual national general conference and delegates’ meeting of the association in Calabar, Cross River State.

The NMA, through its National President, Prof. Mike Ogirima, and National Secretary, Dr. Tanko Sununu, noted that Uwah was conferred with the service award as the most outstanding state chairman in recognition of his distinctive and selfless service to NMA, Akwa Ibom and NMA national.

Uwah, in his acceptance speech, thanked the NMA and all Nigerian doctors for finding him worthy of the honour.

He promised to do more to enhance qualitative health care delivery in Akwa Ibom and Nigeria through the NMA.

Also offered an award at the conference was Tejuosho along with other notable medical doctors and Nigerians.
